L A U R E L  L U K A S Z E W S K I

Laurel Lukaszewski is a Washington, DC-area based artist who creates installations and sculptures primarily from clay. Her work is influenced by a love of rhythms and patterns found in nature and her study of and work with Japan over the past three decades. Laurel has shown her ceramic sculpture throughout the United States and abroad. In addition to solo exhibitions in the Mid-Atlantic region, Huntsville, AL, St. Louis, MO, Tulsa, OK and Bainbridge Island, WA, she has participated in numerous group exhibitions and international art fairs in the District of Columbia, Miami, Palm Beach, New York, Chicago, Houston, Pittsburgh and the UK. In 2015, her work was exhibited at the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as part of the U.S. State Department’s Art in Embassies Program.

Laurel has juried work and/or curated shows for Red Bull's Art of Can, the Montpellier Art Center, Lorton's Workhouse Art Center, Alexandria's Art on the Avenue, and the Arts & Humanities Council of Montgomery County among others. She currently serves on the Artist Advisory Committee for IA&A at Hillyer and the boards of the National Cherry Blossom Festival as an Emeritus Board Member and the U.S. Japan Exchange & Teaching Programme Alumni Association Executive Committee. Laurel was a Maryland State Arts Council 2021 Independent Arts Award Recipient. In 2016, she was awarded the Foreign Minister’s Commendation by the Government of Japan for her longstanding work to promote friendship and mutual understanding between the United States and Japan through the JET Program. Her studio is in the Gateway Arts District in Mount Rainier, MD.
