Patterns of Place
The works I’ve created for this exhibition use elements of line, rhythm and form to evoke a sense of place. Whether referencing the memory of a physical location, a point in time or a mental state, these pieces form an abstracted image, a fragment of memory and a touchstone for time passed.
I am continually interested in our perception of the present and how we catalog our memories for future reference. It seems that only rarely are we so aware of the present that we create an indelible, solid memory. Many times recollections are only brief snippets, still snapshots, where the details have been rubbed away and only abstracted patterns remain. Each of these works references a sliver of memory. They are an attempt to capture the fine line between celebration and loss we experience as we realize a moment will never occur again.
